If you don’t have an offsite cloud storage plan (and you really should), Google’s newest update to its cloud storage service Google Drive is ready to fix your gaping data backup hole by letting you pick which folders on your device you’d like to back up to Google Drive instead of forcing you to put the files into a single Google Drive folder. It’s called Backup & Sync. Microsoft’s further blurring the distinction between local and cloud storage with a file- syncing. The Backup & Sync app is an upgrade to Google Drive and Google Photos that provides backup and syncing (duh) services to any folder on your computer. Backing up files isn’t too complicated with a dedicated cloud backup service, but backing stuff up with a single folder cloud service gets a bit more complicated since you’d normally have to move files or mess with the download destination in your web browser to get stuff in there. Backup & Sync means you won’t have to think about moving files from your local photo folder to your Google Drive, just choose which local folders you want to sync. Enough backup for $1. Google’s current data storage plans include 1. TB of storage for a reasonable $9. It’s on par with Dropbox’s 1. TB Plus plan for the same price, and better than Box’s Personal Pro plan that grants users only 1. GB for $9. 9. 9 monthly. Microsoft One. Drive’s online storage gives you 1. TB for $6. 9. 9 per month and syncs with all your machines, just like Google Drive. Google says the June 2. G Suite users will have access to a files on- demand feature in the near future called Drive File Stream. It’s similar to Microsoft’s recently announced On- Demand Files service in One. Drive, and lets you stream files you want to access that are stored in the cloud. Follow the 3- 2- 1 backup rule. ![]()
![]() When people ask if they should have some sort of online backup plan for their devices, I respond with an emphatic yes. Not only do backup plans grant you piece of mind, they allow you to find previous versions of files in case you misplace, lose, or unintentionally modify one. But like anyone who gives advice, I seldom follow my own, and have depended on a combination of cheap cloud storage, a network attached storage device under my coffee table, and praying my SSD never dies. Of course, that’s a horrible way to manage data, and barely counts as a “solution.” If you want to be better than me, follow these best practices for backing up files, often called the “3- 2- 1. Keep at least three copies of your data. Three copies of your data means having the original file along with two copies stored elsewhere. Use two (different) storage types to backup data. Keeping all your backup data on the same storage type (like an internal hard drive) could kill both backups in case of disaster. If you’re storing two copies locally, be sure to back them up on different storage media—one internal hard drive, one external drive, for example. At least you can grab one and go in case of emergency. One backup should be offsite. A house fire can wipe out both your internal hard drive as well as anything else you’ve got storing your data in your home. That’s why keeping a backup in a separate location (like in a cloud storage service) is the best method for keeping data safe. ![]() ![]() FAX Utility 2.0 for Windows Update PDF. It can also fairly be said that Barth initiated the enterprise. Barth purposefully placed the Trinity at the beginning of his Church Dogmatics, signifying its importance and centrality to the exposition and proclamation of theology. Since Barth, Protestant theologians have found a renewed interest. Trinity, and contemporary theology has seen it return to the forefront of dogmatics and theological method. Threefold Word of God. Barth held to what is known as the threefold Word of God. In other words, preaching (or proclamation), scripture, and revelation are considered to be three different, yet unified forms of the Word of God. Barth's analogy was the Trinity (see CD I/1, 1. Futhermore,There is no distinction of degree or value between these three forms. And to the extent that the Bible really attests revelation it is no less the Word of God than revelation itself. As the Bible and proclamation become God's Word in virtue of the actuality of revelation, they are God's. Word: the one Word of God within which there can be neither a more nor a less. Nor should we ever try to understand the three forms of God's Word in isolation. The first, revelation, is the form that underlies the other two (CD I/1, 1. CD I/2, 4. 63). On the one hand, this means that we can never impose limits on the scope of grace; and on the other hand, it means. In either case, we would be compromising the freedom of grace - we would be presuming that we can define the exact scope of God's liberality. So Barth's theology of grace. Barth protests both against a system of universalism and against a denial of universalism! The crucial point is that God's grace is free grace: it is nothing other than God himself acting in freedom. And if God acts. in freedom, then we can neither deny nor affirm the possibility of universal salvation. No, for a grace which automatically would ultimately have to embrace each and every one would certainly not be free grace. It surely would. not be God's grace. But would it be God's free grace if we could absolutely deny that it could do that? Has Christ been sacrificed only for our sins? Barth's answer is clear: we can hope (see CD IV/3, pp. He states in The Epistle to the Romans: The Gospel is not a truth among other truths. Rather, it sets a question- mark against all truths. The Gospel is not the door but the hinge. The man who apprehends its meaning is removed from all strife, because he is engaged in a strife with the whole. Anxiety concerning the victory of the Gospel- -that is, Christian Apologetics- -is meaningless, because the Gospel is the victory by which the world is overcome. It is the advocate of both. To jazz up the back, I came up with three wedding related games for our guests to play while they waited for the ceremony to start: a Mad Lib, a fill- in- the- blank, and a word search. I had tons of ideas for games that I ran out of time to use. How about a crossword puzzle, Sudoku, maze, or connect the dots? Once you’ve designed your programs (making sure to fit the card dimensions), print the front and back onto the outside of the cards. I used my regular ink jet printer and had no problems. To start assembling, open up a card and put double stick tape on three sides. Then put double stick tape on both sides of a popsicle stick, covering about half of the stick. Center on the card and press in place. Close the card, pressing to seal the edges. Using the corner rounder punch, carefully round all four corners. Cut a piece of ribbon that, when halved, is long enough to reach from the end of the popsicle stick to the end of the pencil, while still allowing enough slack to write on the program. Thread the halved ribbon through the hole in the popsicle stick. Use a lark’s head knot to secure. Thread the two cut ends of the ribbon of the ribbon through a golf pencil. Knot the ends to secure, then trim. Here’s the back of a finished program. Word search, anyone? And the finished stack of about 5. Our guests loved them! I had people coming up to me during the reception to read me their wedding Mad Libs. We got such a kick out of the reactions to these programs — I’m really glad I took the time to do them. They were quick and easy to put together, and total cost ended up being around $2. The hardest part was drilling holes in the pencils and popsicle sticks. I’m dangerous around power tools, so my husband very nicely did them for me. And isn’t helping each other what marriage is all about? Areca Technology Corporation. The Arc. Serial ATA (SATA, abbreviated from Serial AT Attachment). Serial ATA succeeded the older Parallel ATA (PATA) standard. Although, a number of hot plug PATA offering were first invented and marketed by Core International beginning in the late 1. Micro Channel architecture bus controllers. In contrast, parallel ATA (the redesignation for the legacy ATA specifications) uses a 1. To ensure backward compatibility with legacy ATA software and applications, SATA uses the same basic ATA and ATAPI command sets as legacy ATA devices. SATA has replaced parallel ATA in consumer desktop and laptop computers; SATA's market share in the desktop PC market was 9. A 2. 00. 8 standard, CFast to replace Compact. Flash is based on SATA. The SATA- IO group collaboratively creates, reviews, ratifies, and publishes the interoperability specifications, the test cases and plugfests. As with many other industry compatibility standards, the SATA content ownership is transferred to other industry bodies: primarily the INCITST1. ATA, the INCITS T1. SCSI), a subgroup of T1. Serial Attached SCSI (SAS). The remainder of this article will try to use the terminology and specifications of SATA- IO. Features. First patent details were disclosed in 1. USA . Core created and in 1. Initial implementations were on the IBM PS/2 series and Micro Channel architecture bus controllers. Devices and motherboards that meet the interoperability specification are capable of hot plugging. Unlike PATA, both SATA and e. SATA support hot swapping by design. However, this feature requires proper support at the host, device (drive), and operating- system levels. In general, all SATA devices (drives) support hot swapping (due to the requirements on the device- side), also most SATA host adapters support this command. It allows the use of advanced features of SATA such as hotplug and native command queuing (NCQ). If AHCI is not enabled by the motherboard and chipset, SATA controllers typically operate in . Modern versions of Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Free. BSD, Linux with version 2. Even in those instances, a proprietary driver may have been created for a specific chipset, such as Intel's. First- generation SATA interfaces, now known as SATA 1. Gbit/s, communicate at a rate of 1. Gbit/s. Taking 8b/1. Gbit/s (1. 50 MB/s). The theoretical burst throughput of SATA 1. Gbit/s is similar to that of PATA/1. SATA devices offer enhancements such as NCQ, which improve performance in a multitasking environment. During the initial period after SATA 1. Gbit/s finalization, adapter and drive manufacturers used a . Bridged drives have a SATA connector, may include either or both kinds of power connectors, and, in general, perform identically to their native- SATA equivalents. Native SATA products quickly took over the bridged products with the introduction of the second generation of SATA drives. It is backward compatible with SATA 1. Gbit/s. The theoretical burst throughput of the SATA revision 2. SATA 3 Gbit/s, doubles the throughput of SATA revision 1. All SATA data cables meeting the SATA spec are rated for 3. Gbit/s and handle modern mechanical drives without any loss of sustained and burst data transfer performance. However, high- performance flash- based drives can exceed the SATA 3 Gbit/s transfer rate; this is addressed with the SATA 6 Gbit/s interoperability standard. SATA revision 3. 0 (6 Gbit/s, 6. MB/s, Serial ATA- 6. The theoretical burst throughput of SATA 6. Gbit/s is double that of SATA revision 2. It is backward compatible with SATA 3 Gbit/s. In addition, the standard continues to support distances up to one meter. The newer speeds may require higher power consumption for supporting chips, though improved process technologies and power management techniques may mitigate this. The later specification can use existing SATA cables and connectors, though it was reported in 2. OEMs were expected to upgrade host connectors for the higher speeds. Some legacy power supplies that provide 3. V power on Pin 3 would force drives with Power Disable feature to get stuck in a hard reset condition preventing them from spinning up. The problem can usually be eliminated by using a simple “Molex to SATA” power adaptor to supply power to these drives. Unlike PATA, the same connectors are used on 3. SATA hard disks (for desktop and server computers) and 2. Low insertion force is required to mate a SATA connector. A smaller mini- SATA or m. SATA connector is used by smaller devices such as 1. SATA drives, some DVD and Blu- ray drives, and mini SSDs. SATA drives may be plugged into SAS controllers and communicate on the same physical cable as native SAS disks, but SATA controllers cannot handle SAS disks. Female SATA ports (on motherboards for example) are for use with SATA data cables that have locks or clips to prevent accidental unplugging. Some SATA cables have right- or left- angled connectors to ease connection to circuit boards. Data connector. SATA cables can have lengths up to 1 metre (3. PATA ribbon cables, in comparison, connect one motherboard socket to one or two hard drives, carry either 4. PATA specification; however, cables up to 9. Thus, SATA connectors and cables are easier to fit in closed spaces, and reduce obstructions to air cooling. Although they are more susceptible to accidental unplugging and breakage than PATA, users can purchase cables that have a locking feature, whereby a small (usually metal) spring holds the plug in the socket. SATA connectors may be straight, right- angled, or left angled. Angled connectors allow lower profile connections. Right- angled (also called 9. Left- angled (also called 2. One of the problems associated with the transmission of data at high speed over electrical connections is described as noise, which is due to electrical coupling between data circuits and other circuits. As a result, the data circuits can both affect other circuits, and be affected by them. Designers use a number of techniques to reduce the undesirable effects of such unintentional coupling. One such technique used in SATA links is differential signaling. This is an enhancement over PATA, which uses single- ended signaling. The use of fully shielded twin- ax conductors, with multiple ground connections, for each differential pair improves isolation between the channels and reduces the chances of lost data in difficult electrical environments. A seven- pin SATA data cable (left- angled version of the connector)SATA connector on a 3. The two different pin lengths ensure a specific mating order; the longer lengths are ground pins and make contact first. SATA 3. 0 (6 Gbit/s) cable showing fully shielded twin- ax pairs. Power connectors. It is a wafer- type connector, like the SATA data connector, but much wider (fifteen pins versus seven) to avoid confusion between the two. Some early SATA drives included the four- pin Molex power connector together with the new fifteen- pin connector, but most SATA drives now have only the latter. The new SATA power connector contains many more pins for several reasons. However, very few drives actually use it, so they may be powered from a four- pin Molex connector with an adapter. Pin 3 in SATA revision 3. PWDIS, and is used to enter and exit the POWER DISABLE mode for compatibility with SAS specification. If Pin 3 is driven HIGH (2. V- 3. 6. V max), power to the drive circuitry will be disabled. Drives with this feature will not power up in systems designed to SATA revision 3. This is because Pin 3 driven HIGH will prevent the drive from powering up. Each pin should be able to carry 1. A. Five parallel pins provide a low- impedance ground connection. Two ground pins, and one pin for each supplied voltage, support hot- plug precharging. Ground pins 4 and 1. Drive power connector pins 3, 7, and 1. The drive uses them to charge its internal bypass capacitors through current- limiting resistances. Finally, the remaining power pins make contact, bypassing the resistances and providing a low- impedance source of each voltage. This two- step mating process avoids glitches to other loads and possible arcing or erosion of the SATA power connector contacts. Pin 1. 1 can function for staggered spinup, activity indication, both, or nothing. It is an open collector signal, that may be pulled down by the connector or the drive. If pulled down at the connector (as it is on most cable- style SATA power connectors), the drive spins up as soon as power is applied. If left floating, the drive waits until it is spoken to. This prevents many drives from spinning up simultaneously, which might draw too much power. The pin is also pulled low by the drive to indicate drive activity. This may be used to give feedback to the user through an LED. Passive adapters are available that convert a four- pin Molex connector to a SATA power connector, providing the 5 V and 1. V lines available on the Molex connector, but not 3. V. There are also four- pin Molex- to- SATA power adapters that include electronics to additionally provide the 3. V power supply. Pin 1 of the slimline signal connector, denoting device presence, is shorter than the others to allow hot- swapping. The slimline signal connector is identical and compatible with the standard version, while the power connector is reduced to six pins so it supplies only +5 V, and not +1. V or +3. 3 V. There is also a micro data connector, similar in appearance but slightly thinner than the standard data connector. Not to be confused with SATAe. It uses a more robust connector, longer shielded cables, and stricter (but backward- compatible) electrical standards. The protocol and logical signaling (link/transport layers and above) are identical to internal SATA. The differences are: Minimum transmit amplitude increased: Range is 5. V instead of 4. 00–6. V. Minimum receive amplitude decreased: Range is 2. V instead of 3. 25–6. V. Maximum cable length increased to 2 metres (6. The e. SATA cable and connector is similar to the SATA 1. ![]() The site is experiencing issues and is unable to fulfill your request at this time. If this problem persists please contact customer support.
